All I see are news stories, but nothing really official when or if they will ever come out with an iphone for Verizon. Some websites say late 2009, others say early 2010 or Summer 2010.

For the moment, AT&T has exclusive rights to the iPhone in the U.S. That will be true until early 2010. Sometime within the first 6 months of 2010, I’d expect to see an iPhone for T-Mobile and other GSM networks.

At present, the iPhone is a GSM phone, meaning the kind of phone that uses a SIM card, and works on networks like T-Mobile and AT&T. Verizon, on the other hand, is a CDMA network – it’s a completely different technology. Apple would have to totally re-engineer the iPhone to make it compatible with Verizon; on the other hand, Verizon is a huge network, so it’s entirely possible that Apple would create an iPhone that will work with their network. ZDNet’s blog reported that Apple and Verizon were in talks as of last April regarding a deal to build CDMA phones, so keep watching.
